Never before has international travel been widely available to all.  Never mind talking about the ordinary man in the street. Even the aristocracy didn?t have the freedom of travel that we have today. The freedom to explore the world is incredible. Want to go climbing in the Himalayas? Want to experience the Mardi Gras in Brazil?

No problem! How interesting is that? The opportunities to learn about other cultures and lifestyles is unending. For me one of the most disappointing sights is that of seeing fish and chip shops when I go abroad, or the ubiquitous Coca Cola signs that blight every village from the Sudan to Outer Mongolia. Well that globalism and I guess it is a fair price to pay.

I?m still trying to work out what Confucius meant. What exactly is the curse of living in interesting times? Is it the level of criminality we encounter, I don?t know, but that doesn?t seem to have changed much through the centuries.
